Bacta-Pur®

One of the most concentrated bacterial cultures made (exceed 1011 cells/mL), Bacta-Pur® is made in Canada with the most stringent quality control. Small regular doses are very effective in improving water quality in decorative and koi ponds.

Bacta-Pur® KLEAR
A decorative fishpond is polluted by fish waste as well as by excess feeding. Unless this pollution is removed the pond will turn into a hostile environment for fish, causing stress and disease. Excess waste also serves as nutrient for algae, causing green water. You cannot see your fish in turbid water and health problems may go unnoticed.

Bacta-Pur® KLEAR contains strain of natural beneficial bacteria that are capable of biodegrading fish waste. Toxic ammonia, which is produced by fish, is ultimately converted into harmless nitrate and nitrogen. The biodegradation also produces bacterial biomass, which will serve as food for the animals in the pond. The reproduction cycle of the bacteria requires phosphate, which is also a major nutrient for filamentous algae. Bacteria reproduce faster than algae so that they consume more nutrients, leaving less for algae to feed on.

Bacta-Pur® KLEAR clarifies the water and slows the development of algae. In this way the water quality is improved naturally without addition of chemicals. It reduces stress and keeps fish healthy. Special products to get rid of algae are also harmful for fish and plants in the pond. Algae grow on phosphate and nitrate and decomposing dead algae will release them back into the water, which will do even more harm.

Available in 1 litre. Dosing rate = 1 litre treats up to 40 tons (40,000 litres)

Bacta-Pur® SLUDGBUSTERS

A sludge layer tends to form at the bottom of ponds that have been used for a few years. This is caused by sedimentation of garden waste and undigested fish waste. This waste may cause clogging in pumps and filters. Decomposing waste produces toxic gases, which cause noxious odours and may be the source of serious problems if the surface of the pond freezes.

Bacta-Pur® SLUDGEBUSTERS contains bacteria that will efficiently biodegrade this kind of waste. Regular use prevents accumulation of organic sediments so that drains, pumps and filters remain clean. Coarse sediments, such as leaves should be removed manually whenever possible. By removing waste, bacteria eliminate the causes for noxious odours and reduce oxygen demand in the water, so that more oxygen is available to the fish.

The end result of bacterial activity is a reduction of the amount of phosphate available to algae, and a biomass with a high protein content that serves as natural food for all animals in the pond. Less organic waste means less pollution, less ammonia, less stress and less disease. It also means less food for algae, thereby reducing the need to use dangerous products to fight algae. Bacteria will consume the food that algae need to grow on so that they will not develop in large numbers.

Available in 1 litre. Dosing rate = 1 litre treats up to 40 tons (40,000 litres)

Bacta-Pur® NUTRIPAK

Bacteria, like all living creatures, need minerals and essential trace elements to stimulate their growth and activity. Those are often lacking in decorative ponds because they are depleted in a short time. Bacta-Pur® NUTRIPAK contains the nutrients, minerals and trace elements that are needed by the bacteria and, if used regularly, it will keep them in optimal condition.

The beneficial bacteria in Bacta-Pur® KLEAR and Bacta-Pur® SLUDGEBUSTERS keep your pond clean and clear. High dose rates will have to be applied during start-up of a system. At other times, small regular doses will maintain a balanced population of bacteria to keep the pond and filter in top condition. Dose rates are clearly indicated on the bottles. Waste pollutes the pond and is harmful for the animals, causing stress and disease. It should be removed as quickly and efficiently as possible. The bacteria in Bacta-Pur® products are there to help you.

Regular additions of beneficial bacteria prevent the development of pathogenic (disease causing) bacteria through competition for nutrients. This means that use of chemicals and medication can be reduced.

Available in 1 litre. Dosing rate = 1 litre treats up to 40 tons (40,000 litres)

Bacta-Pur® LITHAQUA

Bacta-Pur® LITHAQUA is a marine mineral with a high content of minerals, trace elements and carbonates. It releases them into your pond and thereby adjusts the mineral balance and improves the water quality.

Use it as pond substrate for bacteria to grow on and for fish to play in or use it as a filter medium. Modern multi-chamber filters contain mainly plastic media. Those provide excellent support for bacteria but they do not add anything to water quality.

It is important to fill at least one filter chamber (preferably the last chamber) with Bacta-Pur® LITHAQUA. It provides an enormous surface area for bacteria (10 to 20 times more than most plastic filter media) and provides the bacteria with essential nutrients.

Bacta-Pur® LITHAQUA neutralizes acid pH and restores carbonate alkalinity. It provides a natural environment, on which bacteria in Bacta-Pur® KLEAR and Bacta-Pur® SLUDGEBUSTERS can grow. It is an essential aid to achieve a clear and healthy pond.

Dosing: 1 pail (10kg) to 50 tons of water.
